look at the fresh wounds behind in historic storm in the philippines. and the terrifying realtive what it looked like at the moment of impact. the early numbers are staggering. the associated press is reporting nearly 10,000 people are feared dead. with the ongoing drama of rescue, the philippines said at least -- it will go down as one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall. i spoke to my us earlier that day. i had faith he will make it but maybe he lost his will to live. he told me there was water everywhere and there was no time anymore. >> so many still flooded. roads choked with debris. relief could take days. what will i do now? my house is destroyed. i didn't anticipate the winds to

567-year-old david was reported missing on halloween. his girlfriend tells authorities he was having an emotional break down when he walked way from home. the search began at 9:00 at spring lake regional park. >> a protest is underway for andy lopez, the 13-year-old shot and killed last month. yesterday there was a more inside the park demanding what they describe as just cities for lopez in what was called a day of action. other protests were held in san francisco, oakland and l.a. >> this time we just don't want to let it lie. things need to change. we want a different story because we don't want there to be any more andy lopezs. we don't want that to happen to anyone else. >> sonoma county deputy shot lopez seven times after the teen displayed an air soft rifle. last week his family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against him and the county.

our atmosphere still continues to be very dry. the low clouds that you have around the bay will continue to evaporate throughout the morning hours, revealing more sunshine today and mild temperatures. tomorrow we will increase the clouds. here's a look from mt. tam. you see the low cloud deck but sunshine above. that will work to evaporate the low cloud deck and bring a nice afternoon for you in the city and all around the bay. 54 san francisco and oakland. >> it's been mild. 46 redwood city. half moon bay 567 degrees already from our east bay hills camera. you can see the low cloud deck. it's unorganized and we are looking at the dryer air above, the moisture at the surface and kind of a typical november day. 54 in novato and 58 in fairfield, 48 in santa rosa. the visibility definitely has been a problem from the south bay and mountain view. you can see the fog situated along the shoreline here. it's just around santa rosa and also along the south bay and

around the san carlos airport. here it is in miles. two mile visibility santa rosa and 9 miles. no problem at sfo. the coast not bad and things are continuing to improve and will do that throughout the next couple of hours. we will be looking at the cloud deck lifting in the south bay, with the fog gone throughout the next two to three hours. then hazy sunshine. we will look for a slight chance of showers north of the golden gate late monday and into tuesday. so typhoon haiyan is making landfall again. this is in northern vietnam with 23 food waives. a category one hurricanes with winds about 100 miles an hour. it will continue to weaken quickly. here it is the south china see and continuing to push to the north. northeast about 17 miles an hour. it's within the next six to eight hours it will be at 64 miles an hour as a tropical storm. by the later evening hours just kind of dissipate. lots of trouble here and we will be looking at much calmer

conditions been the day here. the calm, high pressure is allowing for the sunny afternoon. the temperatures just about normal. but we do have a cold front you will notice to the north and west of us. it wants to bring in some moisture, but take a look what happens. we will go through the next couple of hours. we have our sunshine today, fog at the coast, more fog tomorrow. it looks impressive, right? look what happens as it moved in. still rain in the north bay, about a tenth inch, but 9:00, 10:00, it's gone. maybe a tenth inch. that's about it. peninsula 64 today. san mateo. san francisco nice afternoon at 64. up in the north bay a little milder near 70 santa rosa, 68 vallejo and more 60s for you in the east bay. now warning 69. head on inland and some 70s. it's been a nice, clear start for you. san ramon 70. walnut creek upper 60s.

mild 57 half moon bay. the rest of the day, partly cloudy cloudy size in the east bay. 80 about in oakland and at the coast we will be in the low to mid-60s. it will be mild and you will get some sun. inland, a few numbers near 70 degrees. enjoy today, some cooler ranges tomorrow. we will look whether there will be any rain coming up. >> thank you. this morning devastating news from storm-ravaged parts in the philippines. the death toll from typhoon haiyan could reach 10,000. most of the deaths are from drowning and being hit from debris in collapsed buildings. government officials say millions of residents have been affected in some way by this storm. haiyan is now churning toward vietnam. you are looking at new video this morning of workers making preparations ahead of the storm. officials there have evacuated half a million residents from high risk areas.

>> and this morning pope francis led tens of thousands of people at the vatican in silent prayer for the people of the typhoon. he wants to make sure the people of the philippines and region, he feels close to them. the philippines has the largest number of catholics in asia. >> new details on talks between iran and western diplomats on some restriction that would slow development of that country's nuclear program. the discussions ran into trouble yesterday after the ben of foreign minister objected to a draft agreement. complaining it doesn't go far enough to contain iran's nuclear ambitions. talks ended abruptly without an agreement. u.s. secretary of state john kerry is among those meeting. he's confident a deal will be reached at some point. >> with good work and good faith over the course of the next weeks, we can, in fact, secure our goal.

>> the draft agreement would have slowed iran's suspected progress toward making a nuclear weapon while easing sanctions on its economy. the parties are expected to reconvene november 20. tomorrow is veteran's day. a day to honor the men and women who have served in the u.s. military. one man is trying to do that by honoring their memories forever captured in letters written on the battlefield. stephanie shows us the legacy project. >> deer betty ann. i saw something today that makes me realize why we are fighting this war. >> written in april, 1945 by a distant cousin of mine. >> reporter: meet andrew karel. >> this is the letter that started it all. >> reporter: he's talking about this letter written from world war ii. it was on its way to the trash before a retired vet gave it to him. it inspired him to create the legacy project. this is a collection of correspondence composed from

battlefields around the world. he has written books based on the letters and even a play. we caught the rehearsal. >> i wondered if i could use my weapon against someone else. >> the notes, beautifully handwritten, stretch from the earliest wars to e-mails from of afghanistan. there's even this from a staff sergeant that wrote his letter on adolph hitler's stationary and another scarred with a bullet hole. >> we have letters that are stained with blood marks and mud. letters from vietnam where the ink is streamed because it was written in a rain storm. >> the letters often open unique windows into history. >> this was a letter written inside a ship of pearl harbor december 7, 1941, dear sis -- >> i don't know why i'm writing this because if we get hit with a bomb, they won't find enough of me, let alone a letter. >> the emotions are timeless. >> if you strip away the dates and salutations, you can almost not tell one war from another. >> what about the wounds you can't see, the phantoms, the nightmares, the gophers in your

melendez, abc7 news. >> a girl after my own heart. takes the easy way. lisa argen is here now taking a look at the weather. we've got a veteran's day parade today and a number of events tomorrow. >> fairly typical for this time of the year. we will get some sunshine but it will be on the cool side. you see the fog behind us. san francisco, parts of you are sunny. but other parts foggy and much of the fog is in the south bay. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. we are looking at temperatures today on the cool side. mt. tam, the marine layer about 2,000 feet deep and temperatures have not dropped that much overnight. 48 in san jose with your fog and half moon bay some sunshine at 57 degrees. the east bay hills cam, it is dry in the upper levels of the atmosphere and that's what we will be looking at. concord and livermore.

we are stuck in this pattern. here's a look at the low clouds and fog of that formed along the post we had a southerly flow yesterday that brought the flow back. that's aiding and mixing things out. a system dropping from the north will be allowing for more of these clouds to mix on out throughout the day. and tomorrow looks pretty good, as well. 4-mile visibility still in san jose with things improving. but it's still kind of patchy from mountain view to san carlos and two mile visibility santa rosa. you can see for yourself here, san jose still gray. the areas of fog with hazy sunshine this afternoon. temperatures anywhere from two to four degrees cooler and the chance of rain primarily just in the north bay and trace amounts monday night into tuesday. here's the plan for the rest of the day. the fog will be along the coast but it will continue to burn back so that allows for more sunshine, yet cooler conditions with still those southerly winds allowing for the sea breeze and temperatures mainly in the 60s today. so we will advance through the
